Mentor Training Week (Feeling Blue Blue)

6:45 am, looking for the Sun on horizon in a cloudy weather and enjoying the beautiful countryside of Britain gives a joyous feeling. What a Morning. I am on way to heathrow airport and thinking this past week has been amazing and memorable and it couldn't get a better end with a visit to Ogmore by Sea and Ogmore Castle and a "Goodbye Summer Dinner with fireworks ;).

First of all, I'd like to thank my team members and Kerry, they have been fantastic and absolute support and made it memorable.

Met and made new friends, learnt so many new things during trainings and had fun at social event which made it even better. And, they patiently heard whatever I said ;) ..

Last week, few lessons would stay with me forever. It all started with a wonderful Monday where we were reminded out roles and we made values for our scheme and I'd like to mention equality, trust, respect, responsibility and contribution.
In my opinion we had a great productive week where everyone took a lot. These training sessions were designed in such a way where we not only got awareness of ourselves that who we are and how we act in different situations but also gave understanding how to handle mantee. As we say for our brand to people to "ask me" which I'd say is essence of scheme and promoting the mentors brand and it's success as a as a team is our vision.

I would try to reflect on each training soon guess what, sun has finally one out and it's shinning. So guys "RIDE n SHINE", you are the stars. Let's rock :p

Hope to see you around in Uni and looking forward to work together you are the best :)

Inside Inspiration!

01/08/2012

Time is just flying by. Thought of posting about this training on the same day that I attended. Yes, July 25,2012 but my procrastination kicked in :/ and now Today am posting it.

Before I say anything about that training what I learned and how I found it, please have a look at this video.

How did you find this clip. Insane? Crazy ?? or Inspirational?. Bear with me please and look at it again and think how you felt about it. My favourite part is when he says, " Keep Moving and having Progressing in your Life". This moment was a moment of inspiration for me. It made me feel if you have aim and courage to do whatever you target for, you'd definitely achieve that goal. Every great achievement doesn't come up easily, you have to have passion and commitment to do whatever it takes to reach a point where you can surely say that,, YES, I am where I always wanted to be. When we able to achieve our goals; world records, individual records and name in history would come along with it. You don't have to be famous before you achieve something, let your work talk about it..

Thinking what I am talking about and going off the track..??? Ueli Steck video and his achievement may or may not inspire you guys. But, my point is how we get inspired by others.. Their personality, attitude, passion, work ethics, dealing with different situation or emotions. I always wonder how people make others to inspire themselves. Its an inner attribute and not all people are gifted with this attribute. But, One can develop it.

We all want to do something extraordinary in our lives. People judge us when we do something first. But, who you are is most important thing. If you know yourself, what you are is actually inspiring to other people. Be yourself and knowing yourself is worth more than any of your work and whatever you get. We all do things similar to what other people are doing but its you and yourself who distinguish yourself amongst others.

Once you know yourself, then it comes to what makes you inspirational to other people. You doesn't need to have a strong/influential personality but you do need to know yourself. The reason why am restating this is because when you know yourself, you automatically get a strong personality trait and that gives you authenticity. People understands your personality when you act as who you are. They start to believe in you. So, Who you are and what you are built your image.

Question still remains the same, how can you become an inspiration to others..

Inspiration comes with emotions. It comes with the feelings. Inspirations have desire to be someone or to have something. Inspiration comes with fear when you know you could loose something if you don't do anything. Inspiration comes with empathy, when you have been to what other feel and you know how to support others in hard times. These all are the feelings and if you combine these feelings in story telling you would able to inspire other people.

WHAT.... STORY TELLING.... ?????? You might say, I must be kidding. But, am not...

Let put yourself in a position where you need to tell other people what is better for them. How would you tell them? You did this, you thought like that, this happened, blah blah blah and no body would care and listen.
But, if you communicate to them putting yourself in a story and it has to be to the point. Paint a picture of yourself and the story. No forewords no descriptions just put yourself in story which you have been and tell them how it felt to be in that situation.

If you have empathy, your emotions (genuine) would show to your audience how you must be feeling in the same situation and you shared your emotions with them in a similar situation and they would follow if you did the right thing. Fear could be anything. Its negative side of inspiration but fear creates a state which effects the emotions and they can cause people to act in a certain way. Is this inspiration???( Trainer let it on our self to decide!! and Now its you who'll decide if its still inspiration).
Desire, when someone starts to desire what you say, it effects their emotions and they follow. It is hard to create desire for some people but if you use props and exhibits effects could be seen in your audience.

Your vision and motivation would always inspire people. If you don't manipulate motivation with manipulation, your personality won't fall. You can get short term inspiration by manipulation but in longer run your authenticity would effect and one would think before that person believes you.

Last but not least, I just want to say you don't have to try to become inspirational. Be YOURSELF.. and follow your dream and chose right path. People would inspire you and follow you. You can win hearts but be yourself.. Apart from this, It was a really good training and I now believe in myself that if I really want something I can do that and also I can inspire people not by my words but from myself and my actions. This also reminds me what Paulo Coelho wrote in " The Alchemist" , " And, When you something, All the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it", which is true!

Hahaha!! this is out of the context but when I used " Be Yourself" again n again that reminded me of this song... Enjoy!!!!

My First Post as Newport Uni Student Mentor

A Reflective Writing of Induction
15th June 2012

Today is a first day as a student mentor in University of Wales, Newport. It feels great and happy to be a part of this fantastic team. I am having a student mentor training right now which is very good and interesting. I am looking forward to meet up new students in upcoming sessions and cant wait to get started again !!!!!

A Perfect video to show what would I do and Now I am one of them.   (O.O)

It felt really nice when I heard from Kerry that I am being selected as a mentor and asked me to join this great team. I was anxiously waiting for the day to get my induction which is today on 15th of June,2012.

It was a mixed feeling when I entered in to the room for induction and training. I was happy and relaxed that I have got something to do in these boring summer vacations. I was also curious about what would be my job and was eager to learn what exactly I'd be doing as a mentor in Unversity.

As the time was passing by with different activities, my love for this job was also touching its heights. I had a bit of an idea what I am gonna be doing but what I really like the most is its not about only helping students in a routine matter but its also about building up relationship and strong network within Newport Uni student community.

It is interesting to remember that we can be a friend of our mentee but our relationship as a mentor must be professional. We should remember our boundry line and how to cope up difficult situation without letting other person's feeling is very important.

Now I am comfortable at this moment and relaxed as I know much about mentoring. The session was knowledegble and I do feel like a mentor now.
